Job summary

College of Lake County is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty to develop curricula and teach middle and high school students across its youth programs at multiple campuses, including Grayslake. You will create engaging courses that build knowledge, skills, and confidence in learners from diverse backgrounds.

Job Description

Community and Workforce Education is seeking innovative and engaging instructors to develop curriculum and teach classes to middle and high school students as part of your growing youth initiatives. These initiatives are dedicated to inspiring intellectual, academic, and social-emotional growth through challenging and stimulating courses offered across all CLC campuses and extension sites. We are especially interested in professionals and educators with expertise in areas such as STEM, manufacturing, and healthcare. Adjunct Faculty Will

• Develop and teach in the assigned subject(s) and level(s) in new or existing programs.
• Fulfill administrative requirements, meet established deadlines and complete required training. Stay current in compliance training, including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority as a condition of employment.
• Agree to and follow appropriate College and department policies and procedures. Schedule varies. Days, evenings and Saturday hours are possible. Possible class locations include CLC Grayslake Campus, Southlake Campus (Vernon Hills), Lakeshore Campus (Waukegan), Braeloch Facility, CLC Advanced Technology Center (Gurnee) or a CLC extension site located in communities across Lake County.

Delivery modes include in-person, virtual live via Zoom, asynchronous, or a hybrid of the aforementioned. In-person is most common.

Required Qualifications

• At least two years experience teaching, coaching, or volunteering with youth, along with substantiated subject-matter expertise and effective communication skills.
• Ability to differentiate instruction for both advanced-level students and those needing additional support to include modifying content delivery, rigor, depth/complexity, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Clear background check
• Competency and/or commitment to learn and use technologies commonly used in instruction at CLC: Microsoft Outlook for all email communications, additional Microsoft applications, common classroom projection technology, Canvas Learning Management System, enrollment software, etc.
• Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Desired Qualifications

• Gifted Endorsement, Degree in Gifted Education or equivalent Specialized Training Coursework.
• Proven competency in serving gifted and talented students' social and emotional needs including emotional intensities/empathy, peer relationship challenges, and/or the need for meaning/purpose and skilled in response-techniques to gifted and talented students’ intellectual and development needs, such as twice-exceptional, asynchronous development, and/or perfectionism
• Strong instructional and curriculum design skills including curriculum compacting, tiering assignments, and project-based learning.
