Job summary

Mercy South Float Pool is seeking a Nursing Student Tech-PRN to support patient care across diverse units under RN/LPN supervision. The role emphasizes flexibility, teamwork, and rapid skill development in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements include enrollment in an approved nursing program, high school diploma or GED, and BLS certification within one month of hire. EMT/Paramedic experience is a plus; lifting and mobility are frequent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; enrolled in approved nursing program; transcripts required showing Fundamentals of Nursing course completion.
• BLS certification required within one month of hire.
• Preferred EMT, Paramedic, or prior patient care experience.
• Physical requirements include lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing and walking most shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under supervision of RN or LPN to support wellness goals.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical tasks essential to care delivery.
• Collaborate with the care team to meet unit goals and ensure patient safety.
• Float across units (Orthopedics, Med/Surg, Telemetry, ICU, ED, Behavioral Health, Oncology, Neurology) as needed.

Qualifications:

• Education:High school diploma, G.E.D. and enrolled in an approved or accredited nursing program. Prior to employment, the nurse tech shall provide student transcripts indicating they have completed Fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and provide competency skills list from their learning institution. The nurse tech must remain in good standing with their school of nursing while in this role. This program is for nursing students only, if a student leaves a program for any reason, they can no longer be a nurse tech

• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire.

• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or Previous Patient Care Experience

• Physical requirements/demands:

• Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis

• Prolonged standing and walking each shift

• Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
