Job summary

SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is seeking student nurse externs to gain real-world clinical training under a dedicated preceptor. Under supervision, externs perform nursing care tasks and learn through 1:1 instruction across units while aligning with their school schedule.

The program ends upon graduation from nursing school with the goal of transitioning to the Graduate Nurse Residency program and permanent employment opportunities.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Has completed fundamentals of nursing and first clinical rotation.
• Graduation date must be within 18 months to qualify.

Responsibilities

• Completes patient care tasks under direction of RN.
• Monitors vital signs and reports changes.
• Assists with activities of daily living and patient comfort.
• Maintains charting and communicates with team.
• Participates in unit meetings and special projects.
• Prepares patients for discharge when appropriate.
