Job summary

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital - Mount Vernon is offering a Student Nurse Externship for nursing students. Under supervision, you will perform a variety of basic nursing tasks and gain real-world clinical experience while preparing for an RN role after graduation.

Enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of fundamentals and first clinical rotation is required, and graduation must be within 18 months to qualify.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of first clinical rotation
• Graduation date must be within 18 months to qualify
• No experience required

Responsibilities

• Completes patient care tasks based on skills deemed competent in nursing school under direction of RN
• Contributes to overall quality and safe care for patients by answering calls for help and monitoring patients’ condition
• Assists patients with activities of daily living including baths, ambulating, feeding, hygiene and bed-making
• Performs procedures such as dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, turning, catheter care, and specimen collection
• Relays information via charting and communicates to team members
• Participates in department initiatives, unit meetings and special projects
