Job summary

Parsons School for Design, a division of The New School, seeks Student Assistants for E4 Wood, Metal, Tool Checkout, and Light Lab in the Making Center. The position supports daily operations, assists students and faculty with tool checkout, and helps maintain clean, organized spaces.

Responsibilities include customer service, shift duties with supervisors, space monitoring, and assisting with equipment reservations and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment and a respectful shop culture for students, faculty, and staff.
• Provide a high level of customer service, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor in all interactions.
• Report for shift on time and review priority tasks with the supervisor.
• Monitor patrons entering and exiting the shop space and be ready to assist them.
• Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and the public regarding department services and policies.
• Perform basic reception duties including greeting visitors and answering calls/emails professionally.
• Assist students and faculty with reservations and equipment requests; checkout tools, inspect returns, and maintain tool organization.
