Job summary

University of the Incarnate Word is seeking a Student Lab Assistant to support teaching and research laboratories. The role requires maintaining a clean, organized, and safe lab environment, with duties including setup, reagent prep, and inventory management.

The ideal candidate is a current UIW student who can work Monday through Friday, up to 20 hours per week. Salary is $11.00 per hour, with reporting to the Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Adherence to university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

Set up and break down laboratories as needed.
Prepare reagents and solutions for experiments.
Clean and sterilize glassware and maintain lab cleanliness.
Manage inventory and store materials properly.
Receive and organize lab supplies and equipment.
Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Keep accurate lab records and logs.
Assist with chemical waste identification and safety procedures.
Take on additional lab duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.

Position Summary

The Student Lab Assistant works to support to ensure teaching and research laboratories are clean, organized, safe, and properly equipped. The Student Lab Assistant reports to the Laboratory Manager.

Essential Functions

Laboratory setup and breakdown.
Preparation of reagents and solutions.
Cleaning and sterilization of glassware.
Inventory and supply management.
Receiving and storage of materials.
Performs routine equipment maintenance.
Maintains laboratory records and logs.
Assists with chemical waste identification and safety procedures.
Performs additional laboratory-related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate both written and verbally.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .
