Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Plaquemines Parish School Board high school with junior or senior status.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and mechanical systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use mechanical tools.
• Strong attention to detail, safety consciousness and ability to follow instructions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and improve mechanical skills in a hands-on environment.
• Preferred: automotive repair coursework or related experience.
• Familiarity with vehicle systems such as engines, electrical and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

• Assists with routine maintenance and repair of school buses.
• Performs basic vehicle diagnostics, including checking fluid levels and tire pressure.
• Helps troubleshoot mechanical issues under supervision.
• Aids in replacing parts, such as brake pads and filters.
• Participates in preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and inspections.
• Cleans and organizes the maintenance workshop and tools.
• Maintains accurate records of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Follows safety procedures and proper tool handling.
• Supports the transportation team in vehicle readiness for daily school operations.
• Gains hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing school buses and district vehicles.
• Learns to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues in vehicles.
• Develops skills in routine vehicle maintenance such as oil changes and tire checks.
• Understanding safety protocols and best practices in automotive repair.
