Job description

Position Overview

KU School of Education and Human Sciences, Educational Psychology Department is hiring a Student Hourly Office Assistant. The position is customer service focused and includes assisting with a variety of departmental office duties. Candidate must be able to work between 8 am-5 pm for 15-20 hours per week. May be work-study eligible, but not required. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills.

60%: Performing in a customer service capacity
  • Receive guests at front desk by greeting, welcoming, and directing them
  • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to emails
  • Assist faculty, staff, students, and guests with tasks and address their questions
40%: Perform clerical tasks.
  • Assisting with mail distribution.
  • Assisting with office supply distribution and organization of supply closet.
  • Photocopying and scanning documents for faculty and staff.
  • Receive, organize, file, distribute, and destruction of confidential documents as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the departmental media library, checking in/out materials, keeping accurate logs.
  • Assist with departmental functions and events including orientations, visitations, accreditation site visits, and luncheons.
  • Prepare orientation and visitation folders for potential students, incoming graduate students, and teaching assistants.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience with Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe as evidenced in application materials.
  • One year of customer service skills, as evidenced in application materials

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
