Job summary

The University of Scranton is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to provide accurate financial aid guidance to new and continuing students and families. You will verify FAFSA data, assess eligibility, and explain aid options, while ensuring compliance with NDAH and Title IX-related policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• One year of financial aid counseling or customer service experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with Banner or similar databases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Uphold the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional aid programs.

Responsibilities

• Review and award financial aid packages in compliance with federal, state and institutional policies.
• Research NSLDS and COD records and reconcile data as needed.
• Develop and monitor cost of attendance budgets and set up aid/loan periods.
• Award graduate and undergraduate PLUS loans as needed.
• Provide loan exit counseling information to students withdrawing or graduating.
• Counsel prospective, new, current students and parents on application, eligibility, status, and awarding of aid.
• Verify FAFSA data and resolve related issues to determine need-based aid.
• Monitor outside resources and assess impact on aid eligibility.
• Serve as liaison with internal and external constituencies.
