The University of New Mexico is seeking Student Entry Level Technicians to support IT Networks. You will assist with daily data network operations, triage Level 1–3 issues, and help maintain CMDB/NetBox diagrams and records. The role offers on-campus work, driver training, and entry-level IT exposure.
Ideal candidates are UNM students with a High School diploma or GED, basic IT knowledge, and willingness to learn A+/Network+ concepts while supporting campus LAN/WLAN connectivity.

Student Technicians leverage their knowledge andtraining within network operations to provide client support for issues withlayers 1 through 3 of the OSI model. Opportunities include: Introduction toNetworks, understanding of system interconnect via Data Link, NetworkOperations, Security and Policy, Configuration and management, and IP schema.
Duties and responsibilities include:
StudentTechnicians are responsible for daily operations of the Data Network. Thisincludes acknowledging tickets and handling network triage for Layers 1 and2. Data networks supports client demand 24/7, and technicians are expected toassist in maintaining that support during their scheduled hours. In additionto daily operations, technical specialists are also expected to support thestaff during critical service restoration operations by providing on-siteverification and coordinating with staff to restore service during theirscheduled hours. Technicians also provide support by maintaining diagrams,documents, and records. This will include modifying and/or correctingdiagrams and documents as needed within the central repository, as well asappending or creating listings on the CMDB and IBN within ServiceNow andNetBox. Daily and weekly duties include vehicle maintenance/inspection andcleaning, storeroom organization and inventory management, surplus collationand submission, team meetings/trainings, and spare device management.Technicians are expected to handle all Port Activation Request (PARs) withinthe guided timeline, IP address management requests, includingWhite/Blacklists, and all general campus LAN/WLAN connectivity issues up toLayer 3. All Student Technical Specialists are to complete the universitymandatory yearly training, as well as the driver training.
Student Technicians must be degree seeking UNM students enrolled within a college program of their choice
All team members musthave a state or government issued ID, as well as a state or governmentissued driver’s license (for vehicle operation)
The position doesrequire a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
All team members mustbe knowledgeable of the use of standard processing and emulationsoftware (Microsoft Office, Visio/Lucid Chart, Putty/TeraTerm/Termius).
Introductory understanding of IT systems andnetworks, methods of network connection, as well as computer components andmodules
IT certifications such as A+ and/or Network +, where applicable.
Atleast 1 year of work experience; to include volunteer, customer service,industry, and/or relevant IT field.
