The University of Pittsburgh's Office of PittServes seeks a Student Engagement Coordinator to lead activities and support student leadership across campus and community projects.

You will coordinate events, advise student organizations, monitor finances, promote events, and ensure compliance with university policies while collaborating with partners in Pittsburgh.

Hybrid schedule with evening/weekend availability; requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Ability to advise and mentor student organizations on program planning and decision-making.
  • Proficiency in basic accounting/budget reconciliation and understanding of university policies.

  • Monitor and reconcile student organizations’ financials and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Attend meetings and publicize events in the campus and local community.

Student Engagement Coordinator

The Office of PittServes within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh serves as a catalyst for students and communities to engage in action that creates impactful change. The Student Engagement Coordinator will be joining a team working to realize the vision of achieving resilient and equitable communities and inspire civically minded individuals. The Office of PittServes focuses on engaging and educating Pitt students about civic action, with student leaders key to engaging their peers. Working with partners in the greater Pittsburgh community, as well as on-campus entities, current programs range from (but are not limited to) Pitt Impact Ambassadors, campus and community-based sustainability initiatives, Signature Days of Service, Alternative Break trips, PittVotes, the Pitt Civic Engagement Council, and other partnerships engaging students in community-identified projects. All employees within the Division will be asked to perform duties outside of their department. Additional assignments may include, but are not limited to Welcome Week Activities, Divisional committees, events, etc.

Skill requirements for this position:

  • Event & Program Coordination: Strong organizational and project management skills to plan, coordinate, and execute student events, activities, and leadership-development programs, including facility, equipment, and logistics arrangements.
  • Advising & Student Development: Ability to advise and mentor student organizations, governance groups, and clubs on program planning and decision-making, with knowledge of student development principles and group facilitation.
  • Financial & Policy Oversight: Proficiency in basic accounting/budget reconciliation and a working knowledge of institutional policies (organization registration, solicitations, concessions) to monitor compliance and serve as a policy resource.
  • Communication & Marketing: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating promotional materials, publicizing events, and building community/media relationships to enhance university visibility.
  • Interpersonal Flexibility & Availability: Strong interpersonal skills to engage diverse students, faculty, and staff, paired with willingness to work evenings/weekends to attend student-sponsored meetings and events.
Job Summary

Assists in the organization and development of student activities and coordination of special events. Advises student organizations and students on programs and services. Attends student-sponsored social events, monitors organizations' financials and performs reconciliations, and ensures compliance with all University policies. Publicizes student events, assists in developing promotional materials, and registers and monitors new student organizations and requests.

Essential Functions

Assists in organizing student activities, which may include social events, Greek programs, student government committees, newspapers, clubs, and organizations.

Assists in developing, planning, and coordinating special events including student/faculty events, recreational activities, and student‑leadership‑development opportunities.

Assists and advises student organizations regarding program planning, use of facilities, program arrangements, services and available equipment.

Advises students in developing, coordinating, implementing and scheduling organization programs of a co‑curricular nature. Promotes responsible student decision‑making and encourages wide student participation.

Attends meetings and other student‑sponsored social events.

Monitors organizations’ accounting procedures and advises regarding proper procedures; reconciles and verifies accuracy of accounts.

Explains and monitors compliance with University policies and procedures pertaining to student activities; serves as a resource to faculty and other staff in matters of program development, policy, and procedures.

Seeks to publicize student events in the local community and to increase community awareness of the University.

Assists in developing and designing informational and promotional materials and publications about student activities, student affairs, and the campus in general including publishing the events calendar.

Registers new student organizations and reviews, approves, and monitors requests for concessions and solicitations.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
