  • Conduct needs assessments to keep programming relevant for a diverse campus.
  • Build a library of educational resources supporting asynchronous learning.
  • Coordinate with HR to align with workforce development and training.
  • Establish evaluation frameworks and track program metrics.
  • Stay current on workplace wellbeing and adult learning best practices in higher education.
  • Represent the office in university committees and working groups.

The Engagement and Wellbeing Assistant Director advances Pitt’s commitment under Plan for Pitt 2028 to cultivate a welcoming, engaged community (Pillar 3). This serves as a strategic consultant for the community and leads the design and delivery of education, training, professional development, and workshops that help build a culture of belonging, connection, and wellbeing among all stakeholder groups across the university. The individual in this role will be a skilled facilitator, educator, and program designer who is energized by building the conditions for people and the university community to thrive.

Situated within the Office of Institutional Engagement and Wellbeing, this role sits at the intersection of organizational culture, learning, and engagement strategy. The incumbent in this role will support a broader range of campus community-building initiatives including the Pitt Inclusion Network. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with campus partners, including Human Resources and Student Affairs, to ensure that campus engagement and wellbeing education aligns with the university’s broader talent, retention, and organizational development landscape.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, human resources, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience designing and facilitating education, professional development, training, or workshop programming in an organizational or higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners to develop curriculum and programming content.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences across a variety of formats and settings.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and evidence-based approaches to education and professional development.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating learning environments where all people feel seen and supported.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in workplace wellbeing, employee engagement, or organizational culture initiatives.
  • Familiarity with assessment tools, program evaluation, and data-driven approaches to learning design.
  • Experience working in a complex, decentralized institution such as a research university.
Job Summary

Manages an overall organization educational engagement for faculty, staff, and students with respect to institutional engagement and wellbeing. Works with leadership on engagement strategies and to support efforts to retain students, faculty, and staff. Assists in the strategic planning of educational outreach, educational initiatives for faculty and staff, and policy. Executes comprehensive cross-cultural educational opportunities.

Essential Functions
  • Design and deliver education, professional development, and workshop programming for the Pitt community that directly advances a culture of belonging, wellbeing, and engagement within the university community.
  • Develop and help facilitate workshops, seminars, and learning series—both in-person and virtually—on topics such as psychological safety, inclusive workplaces, resilience, and community connection.
  • Identify, engage, and collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to co-develop strategies to impact the campus
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments to ensure programming remains relevant, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of a diverse campus community.
  • Build and maintain a library of educational and professional development resources to support asynchronous and self-directed learning aligned with the office’s culture and wellbeing priorities.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure programming complements—without duplicating—existing workforce development and training efforts.
  • Establish evaluation frameworks and track metrics to assess programming reach and effectiveness, contributing to the office’s data-informed culture.
  • Stay current on research and best practices in workplace wellbeing, belonging, and adult learning in higher education contexts.
  • Represent the office in relevant university committees and working groups related to engagement and wellbeing.
Physical Effort

Duties are primarily sedentary. Must be able to use a computer at a desk or similar workstation, and travel to on-campus meetings as needed.
