Job summary

Lansing Community College is seeking a Student Employee for the Electrical Lab to support instructors and lab staff. Duties include assisting with safety, preparing and maintaining the lab, and helping with materials and projects during class times.

The role requires daily campus presence, with potential day/evening/Saturday hours. Applicants must meet work-study eligibility and enrollment requirements at LCC.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled and actively attending required LCC credit hours per semester.
  • 2.00 GPA minimum (unless first semester or waiver granted).
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Actively pursuing a certificate, associates, or undergraduate degree at LCC.
  • International students must meet minimum enrollment per USCIS per semester.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors.
  • Ensure that lab safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Keep the lab clean, orderly, and properly prepared for each class.
  • Assist students, faculty, and lab assistants during class time as requested.
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment.
  • Assist in inventorying and maintaining supplies for the lab.
  • Complete work requests for faculty and lab assistants.
  • Work with faculty and lab assistants on projects as requested.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Student employees in Utility and Energy Systems Program will assist instructors and lab assistants during class times and help prepare and maintain the lab before and after classes. They will also assist with preparation of materials and other projects as needed by faculty and lab assistants.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors
  • Ensure that lab safety procedures are followed at all times

  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment

The successful applicant must be dependable, a self-starter, outgoing, fast learner, and able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. This position may require daytime, evening, and Saturday hours.

Requirements for LCC Student Employment:

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters in which they are attending classes as follows:

  • Enrolled and actively attending the following total LCC credit hours by semester
    • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits minimum (taken over 16-week period)
    • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits minimum (taken over 8-week period)
  • 2.00 GPA minimum (unless it’s student's first semester of enrollment at LCC and/or granted approval to waive requirement from the Student Employment Coordinator)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Actively pursuing a certificate, associates, or undergraduate degree at Lansing Community College
  • Note: International students (i.e., F-1 visa holders w/ valid I-20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS):
    • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits min. (taken over 16-week period)
    • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits min. (taken over 8-week period)
