Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active enrollment in Building Construction or Construction Management program at LCC.
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA unless first semester or waiver.
  • International students must meet minimum enrollment per USCIS each semester.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors.
  • Ensure lab safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Keep lab clean, orderly, and prepared for each class.
  • Assist students, faculty, and lab assistants during class time.
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment.
  • Inventory and maintain lab supplies.
  • Complete work requests for faculty and lab assistants.
  • Collaborate with faculty on projects as needed.
  • Map locations of tools and workstations in the lab.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Student employees in the Construction Lab will assist instructors and lab assistants during class times and help prepare and maintain the lab before and after classes.

Duties
  • Provide information on lab safety to students and visitors
  • Ensure that lab safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Ensure that the lab is clean, orderly, and properly prepared for each class
  • Assist students, faculty, and lab assistants during class time as requested
  • Assist in maintaining lab equipment
  • Assist in inventorying and maintaining supplies for the lab
  • Complete work requests for faculty and lab assistants
  • Work with faculty and lab assistants on projects as requested
  • Map the locations of our tools and workstations in the lab
  • Other responsibilities as needed

The successful applicant must be dependable, a self-starter, outgoing, fast learner, and able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ideal candidate will be a student in the Building Construction Program or the Construction Management Program. This position may require daytime and evening hours.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

LCC policy requires all LCC employees to be residents of the State of Michigan and to perform all work (with limited exceptions) within the State of Michigan.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Requirements for LCC Student Employment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enrolled and actively attending the following total LCC credit hours by semester
  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits minimum
  • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits minimum
  • 2.0 GPA minimum (unless it’s student’s first semester of enrollment at LCC and/or granted approval to waive requirement from the Student Employment Coordinator)
  • International students (i.e. F-1 visa holders with valid I-20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS):
  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits min.
  • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits min
Additional Position Requirements
  • Actively pursuing an Associate’s or undergraduate degree at LCC in Building Construction or Construction Management
