Job summary

University of Central Missouri (UCM) Learning Commons is seeking Community Service Tutors to support K-12 students and fellow learners. Tutors will provide help with homework, study skills, and understanding concepts, while also discussing career and education planning as appropriate.

Responsibilities include mentoring, active listening, and feedback during student visits, with duties extending to policy adherence and collaboration with university staff.

Job description

Learning Commons peer tutors provide academic support in a variety of courses and disciplines. Community Service Tutors will provide help to local K-12 students. Academic support can include but is not limited to assistance with homework, study skills and overall concept understanding. Tutors will model strong academic skills, provide study support, and help students figure out their own learning styles and strategies. Areas for support may include reading and mathematics assistance, among other subjects. In addition, these tutors should also be prepared to have career and education planning conversations as appropriate. Community Service Tutors should be prepared to work with individuals with different backgrounds and learning abilities. This role will also assist with other Anchor Insitution Initiatives as they arise. Community Service Tutors must be available to tutor both in person (JCK Library 1250) and online using Zoom.

Duties Include:
