Job summary

Eastern University seeks an Academic Coach and Assistant Coordinator for Tutoring to oversee peer tutoring and provide academic coaching to FlexUndergraduate students in the Parent Pathways program. The role is hybrid and requires some evening hours.

The position includes supervising tutors, coordinating WCOnline use, and assisting EQUIP and Act101 teams with student support and program development.

Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education, teaching experience, and direct tutoring experience are preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Sensitivity to the needs of developmental students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities is essential.
  • Must be able to work the duration of the summer EQUIP program.

Position Description

The Academic Coach and Assistant Coordinator for Tutoring,reporting to the Assistant Director of Coaching and OpportunityPrograms in the Academic Resource Center (ARC), oversees Eastern'speer tutoring program, provides academic coaching to students FlexUndergraduate students enrolled in the Parent Pathways program, andassists with other academic support services with an emphasis onstudents in the Act 101, EQUIP. This position is hybrid and willrequire some evening hours.

Position Responsibilities
Assistant Coordinator for Tutoring PositionResponsibilities:
  1. Ongoing recruitment, selection, training, and supervision ofpeer tutors for the undergraduate peer tutoring program during theacademic year
  2. Implementation and ongoing monitoring of WCOnline for peertutoring appointments between tutors and traditional undergraduatestudents
  3. Arranges tutoring for summer FastPass and other online summercourses. Is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, andsupervision of peer tutors, and for pairing of tutors withstudents
  4. Serves as a member of the EQUIP and Act101 staff teams, helpingwith training, program development, and student support
  5. Provides professional recommendations regarding appropriatereading and study skill accommodations and modifications of coursematerials and resources for students who learn differently
  6. Presents Warner Library and ACT 101 Workshops on variousreading and study skill topics
  7. Oversees and monitors the use of NetTutor for undergraduate,graduate, and flex students
  8. Completes monthly invoice procurements for NetTutor
Academic Coach Position Responsibilities:
  1. Provides online academic coaching to students who enroll forservices with study skills, time/self-management, test-taking,reading strategies, etc.
  2. As requested, develops and presents online workshops focused onstudy skills, time management, "negotiating the system" (e.g.,registration, financial aid), etc.
  3. Maintains case documentation and prepares weekly records ofcontacts and other summary reports as requested.
  4. Assists students with navigating University systems such asfinancial aid and registration.
  5. Assists academically under-prepared or underperforming studentsin creating and following programs for improvement.
  6. Maintains competencies with web-based training and attendanceat seminars.
  7. Other duties as assigned by the e Assistant Director ofCoaching and Opportunity Programs.
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Attends ARC staff meetings as requested
  2. Attends professional development activities relating to peertutoring, testing, and the Act 101 program upon request
  3. Remains knowledgeable about best practices in the field andimplements changes to facilities and procedures when necessary tomeet best practice standards
  4. Prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports as requested
  5. Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice andintegrity, competence and affirmation
  6. Seeks to treat each member of the campus community withfairness, dignity, and respect, seeking a spirit of unity andharmony as we join together to achieve our common mission
Status:

Full-time, staff, salaried, exempt, 40 hours perweek, 52 weeks per year.

  • Must be able to work some weekend and evening hours for theacademic year and during the summer Equip program.
