Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Computing and Technology Support Technician (Student/Work-Study) to provide hands-on technology support for classrooms, conference rooms, labs, and faculty workspaces. The role serves as the primary contact for audiovisual and desktop technology.

Responsibilities include supporting Crestron AV systems, Zoom Rooms, and conferencing platforms; assisting with basic computer troubleshooting; imaging and deploying computers; maintenance and documentation; and

Qualifications

• Windows and macOS basic support experience.
• Troubleshoot AV issues with displays, projectors, audio.
• Experience with Zoom, Teams, or equivalent.
• Able to explain tech to non-technical users in live classrooms.
• Strong organization to manage multiple requests and priorities.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work from ladders.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-tier support for Crestron AV systems in classrooms and conference rooms.
• Maintain Zoom Rooms and other conferencing platforms.
• Diagnose and resolve AV issues; escalate to senior staff or vendors as needed.
• Assist faculty with basic computer troubleshooting (OS, software, printing, network).
• Perform preventive maintenance of classroom and conference room tech.
• Support equipment installation during renovations and deployments.
• Imaging and deploying desktop/laptop computers with standard tools.
• Install, relocate, and decommission computers and peripherals; track inventory.
• Provide basic hardware diagnostics and repair coordination.
• Create user-facing documentation and quick reference guides.
• Provide occasional event support.
