Job summary

Traverse City Area Public Schools at Traverse City High School in Michigan is seeking a Teacher Instructional Assistant (Attendance & Engagement) for a grant-funded position. The role is 6.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, reporting to the building principal.

It focuses on attendance outreach, engagement, and supporting students and teachers in daily activities. The assistant will monitor attendance, assist with interventions, and mentor students to foster belonging and academic progress.

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma.
• College credit, WorkKeys certification or college degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining classroom activities under teacher supervision.
• Monitor attendance data and identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
• Outreach to students and families to understand barriers to attendance.
• Support attendance follow-up strategies to improve engagement.
• Collaborate with staff to coordinate intervention plans.
• Assist and monitor student academic progress.
• Serve as a point of contact for identified students to foster belonging.
• Provide mentorship supporting social, emotional, and academic well-being.
• Assist with restorative conversations and problem-solving with students.
• Help with materials, displays, and large group activities.
• Read to students and support library or media center activities.
• Support testing, note checks, and assignment collection.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Participate in inservice training and other duties as assigned.
