Job summary

Saginaw Public Schools is seeking an Attendance Improvement Paraprofessional to intervene with students showing attendance concerns under principal supervision. This role collaborates with school staff and community agencies to redirect youth toward positive attendance and healthy lifestyles.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, plus college coursework or an assessment per MDE, and experience with data collection and reporting. Strong communication and de-escalation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university (or) pass the ETS Educational Paraprofessional Assessment as required by the MDE.
• Previous successful experience with data collection, entry, database management and reporting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce state attendance laws.
• Inform and apply District Attendance policies.
• Educate and re-educate parents and students about applicable laws.
• Develop relationships with Principals, Students and parents to improve attendance/truancy.
• Communicate with parents, students and staff to build positive relationships and address truancy.
• Assist in developing an action plan with parents/guardians and student to address absenteeism and encourage staying in school.
• Confer with student and parents on daily absences, determine excused/unexcused/medical absences.
• Review attendance data to identify excessively absent or tardy students.
• Collaborate with staff to develop interventions and share with staff and principals.
• Make referrals to internal staff and community agencies as needed.
• Support attendance prevention programs and recommend strategies to improve attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned per funding source guidelines.
