Job summary

American University seeks a part-time Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) tutor to provide free one-on-one tutoring services virtually or in-person to AU student-athletes in challenging courses. Tutors reinforce academic skills and help students work independently beyond tutoring sessions.

Eligibility requires enrollment in an AU degree program with a 3.0+ GPA and demonstrated mastery in supported courses.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a degree program at American University.
• Maintenance of a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
• Demonstrate course mastery by receiving an A or A- in their supported course.
• Willingness to work with diverse populations of faculty, staff, and students.
• Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in professional team environments.
• Possess strong organizational skills and experience in basic office management.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative. Ability to maintain an appropriate degree of confidentiality.
• Possess intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Provide virtual and/or in-person one-on-one tutoring, determined by course and student needs.
• Adequately prepare for tutoring sessions by completing the SASP Canvas tutorial course.
• Complete the post-session notes outlining content and concepts covered, progress made, and/or challenges encountered in tutoring sessions.
• Accurately complete time sheets in a timely manner.

Job Description:

Summary:

The Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) provides free, virtualpeer tutoring services in a one-on-one format to allstudent-athletes in historically challenging courses defined bystudent needs and tutoring requests. SASP tutors build andreinforce academic skills and knowledge needed for most coreprograms at AU. Tutors model effective study habits and learningstrategies, equipping student athletes with the skills andknowledge to work and succeed independent of the tutor.

Essential Functions:

• Provide virtual and/or in-person one-on-one tutoring,determined by course and student needs.
• Adequately prepare for tutoring sessions by completing the SASPCanvas tutorial course.
• Complete the post-session notes outlining content and conceptscovered, progress made, and/or challenges encountered in tutoringsessions.
• Accurately complete time sheets in a timely manner.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• Part-time.
• 8 hours per week.

Salary Range:

• $18.40 - $20.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

• Enrollment in a degree program at American University.
• Maintenance of a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
