San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) is seeking a Student Assistant to provide friendly front-desk service and campus information on-site at Fremont, CA. This part-time, hourly position offers exposure to higher-education operations and strong customer-service experience.
As a current enrolled student, you will support reception, scheduling, and inquiries, learning essential administrative skills in a campus environment. Hours are intermittent between 9 am and 5:30 pm; on-site only.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students (and working closely with the Front Desk Receptionist), the Student Assistant provides desk coverage in the absence of the Front Desk Receptionist. This role delivers exceptional hospitality to fellow students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. Position Type: Part-Time, Student Employment (Hourly)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Campus Hospitality: Warmly greet and assist students, faculty, staff, and external visitors with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Communication Support: Efficiently answer, screen, and direct incoming phone calls and general email inquiries, maintaining high customer service standards.
Appointment Coordination: Help peers by scheduling student appointments with key campus offices, including the Bursar, PDSO, and Registrar.
Admissions & Info Desk Support: Provide accurate information about the university admissions process, campus services, and upcoming events to prospective students and visitors.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure standard campus security protocols are followed for visitor check-in and building access.
Other Duties: Assist with light organizing, event prep, and other related projects as assigned.
Work Hours and Location
Hours:
Intermittent Coverage between 9 am - 5:30 pm for Receptionist paid time off.
Location: 100% on-site at our campus reception area. Remote work is not available for this role.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing.
Prior experience in a customer service, retail, or hospitality role (volunteer experience counts). Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail).
Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds (e.g., mail packages or event flyers).
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with campus layout, university resources, and general campus operations. Experience using database or appointment-scheduling software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A strong customer-service mindset with a welcoming, helpful attitude toward peers and visitors.
Absolute discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records.
Ability to work reliably and independently during your scheduled shifts.
Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with diverse populations, including faculty, leadership, and international guests.
Strong attention to detail and a willingness to follow established front-desk procedures.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work is performed primarily at the front reception desk.
Must wear SFBU provided Polo or T-Shirt to shift.
Physical activities include sitting or standing for extended periods, walking across campus, reaching, and occasionally lifting/carrying items up to 20 pounds.
Pay Rate: $20/hour
