Position Introduction:
The primary responsibilities would include:
- Verifying patient insurance eligibility and active coverage prior to appointments.
- Reviewing available benefits for scheduled services.
- Determining whether prior authorization, referral, or other payer requirements are needed.
- Assisting with submission and tracking of authorization requests under staff supervision.
- Following up on pending insurance or authorization items.
- Accurately documenting verification and authorization information in the appropriate clinic system.
- Identifying incomplete or unclear information and escalating issues appropriately.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in the Fall Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
- Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Suggested qualifications would include:
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in good academic standing.
- No prior insurance-verification experience required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort with computers and the ability to learn the EHR, scheduling systems, and insurance portals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information.
- Dependability and the ability to work with progressively greater independence after training.
- Availability for approximately 10 hours per week (0.25 FTE).
