Sweet Briar College is a womens liberal arts institution, located in Central Virginia approximately 12 miles north of Lynchburg and 60 miles south of Charlottesville. Reports To: Barbara Watts, Director of Career Services

Job Summary/Objective: To assist the office of Career Services in their work with students. This position will provide marketing support, events management assistance, LinkedIn headshots for students, and general office support.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours: Hours are flexible but need to be worked between 9 am 5 pm, Monday-Friday. Some evenings may be required for special events. Average of 10 hours per week.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities. This is a student position.
  • Support career services functions and events by assisting with event registration, hosting guests, set-up, and clean-up of events, and assisting participants.
  • Greet walk-ins and assist with appointment scheduling when the Director of Career Services and Career Services Assistant are out of the office.
  • Post marketing materials for career services events across campus.
  • Assist with social media posts for job and internship opportunities and events.
  • Provide office support by filing, organizing, and maintaining materials in the office.
  • Help with management of Google job site, Career Services email, and creating publicity via Canva.
  • Create LinkedIn headshots for students wanting a professional photo.
  • Provide backup support if needed to transport students to regional job fairs and events (schedule permitting).

  • Attentive to detail and ability to handle confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Social media marketing experience.

Work Environment: Office setting, working with computers and patrons.

Physical Demands: Able to file materials, able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, able to assist with setting up for events, able to secure van driver certification to transport students to events.

Travel: Some off-site for career services events (job and graduate school fairs) at neighboring institutions. No overnight travel is required. The class schedule will be taken into consideration.
