Description

Visit California is seeking to hire a for a dedicated student assistant to work as a Communications Intern to support our corporate communications team. Visit California supports the largest tourism industry in the U.S. in their marketing, community development, inclusivity and sustainability efforts.

This role is ideal for students with strong communication and writing abilities, keen attention to detail, and a solid mix of technical aptitude and interpersonal skills. Candidates motivated to learn the intricacies of an unfamiliar industry and about new technology will receive the most benefit from this internship. The ability to self-teach is a must. While this internship is in the tourism industry, you should expect to gain relevant business and tech knowledge that can be applied to nearly any industry.

Requirements

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.

UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.

Prerequisites

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Work Schedule

F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Compensation

$16.90 - $20.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree program. Any course of study can be a good fit, though the role will most serve those exploring careers in communications, writing, marketing, business, digital content production or hospitality/travel/tourism.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling content.
  • Proven technical proficiency, with a willingness to learn and master various software applications.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with an aptitude for keeping projects on track and engaging with diverse teams.
  • Ability to absorb new information quickly and apply new skills effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the production of communications and digital media for web, email and social that help tourism organizations partner with Visit California and understand its value.
  • Understand the tourism industry and how Visit California helps it succeed and benefit all Californians.
  • Work with a variety of software tools including content management systems, spreadsheets, email marketing software, event management software and social media management tools.
  • Manage multiple projects, track completion dates, coordinate with stakeholders and maintain an organized calendar of activities.
  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of new software platforms, establishing efficient workflows.
  • Quickly adapt to new technologies and help troubleshoot by consulting help manuals and online resources.
  • Produce web, social and email content, text and visual.
  • Ensure consistent and effective communications calendar. Adhere to and enforce style and brand guidelines.
  • Assist with deployment of content to B2B technology platforms and implementation and maintenance of digital processes.
Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
