The State Controller's Office (SCO) is seeking to hire a Certified Law Student Assistant to work in its Legal Office. SCO's Legal Office provides critical advisory and protective services regarding California’s financial resources. The Legal Office's core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Statutory Compliance, Policy and Litigation Advice and Unclaimed Property Enforcement.
In this role, the student assistant will participate in supervised legal research and writing, document review analysis and editing for compliance with administrative and legal authorities. The student assistant will draft meeting notes, discussion outlines, and proposed agendas and represent SCO at hearings under legal supervision. The Certified Law Student Assistant will also learn legal research and writing and how to synthesize and verbally communicate complex legal matters in an efficient and concise manner.
The internship will allow the student an opportunity to gain effective communication, critical thinking, professional etiquette, and analytical skills.

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Students must be enrolled in at least: 12 semester units or 12 quarter units for undergraduate students; eight-semester units or eight quarter units for graduate students.
Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting and students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher .

Hybrid work schedule . F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Monday - Friday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
$18.00 - $26.00 per hour.
