Employment Development Department (EDD) seeks Student Assistants for the Youth Employment Opportunity Program in Madera, CA. You will work with youth aged 15–25, offering on-site support, guidance, and outreach to help them achieve educational and occupational goals.
Under supervision, you will case manage, refer to training, conduct job search workshops, and recruit youth from local schools and communities. This is an in-office role with structured hours.

Are you between the ages of 15 - 25 and currently enrolled in High School or an accredited College? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth? Then the Youth Employment Program (YEOP) may be for you! We are seeking individuals that are self-driven, creative, and are interested in working with youth. The ideal candidate would have a passion for helping other youth achieve their educational and occupational goals. You will work collaboratively, dependently, as well as with a diverse and talented group of student assistants, mentors and managers.
Under the close supervision of a Workforce Services (WS) Employment Program Manager (EPM) I and the direct guidance of a Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) Mentor, Student Assistants (SA) will provide services out of the America's Job Centers of California (AJCC) to youth between the ages of 15 and 25 years old. SAs will receive on-the-job training and then provide services to youth designated as at-risk. SAs will case manage clients through peer advising, refer clients to educational institutions and local training providers, provide vocational guidance, present job search workshops, conduct outreach, and recruit youth from the local community and schools.
Applicants must meet YEOP eligibility criteria; applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 25, be attending school, with a minimum of at least 6 semester units or 8 quarter units. This position may work up to 1,500 hours in a 12 consecutive month period. The Employment Development Department (EDD) offers flexible scheduling during operating hours designed with your educational success in mind. EDD operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants applying for this position must meet YEOP eligibility criteria, be currently enrolled and attending high school, college, or other post-secondary education. Those with limited or no work experience are encouraged to apply.
Student Assistants represent the Employment Development Department (EDD) and the Youth Employment Opportunity Program at local high school and college special events, career days and job fairs.
The position will be located at the Madera AJCC.
Per the Governor's Office of California, the Employment Development Department is considered an essential department. This position requires local in-person workload, though some telework may be available. This position's office follows the recommended safety guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Students in this position may work up to 1,500 hours in a 12 consecutive month period.

Students who are Youth Employment Opportunity Program (YEOP) eligible must be between the ages of 15 and 25 and currently enrolled at an accredited college or university may apply for this position.
