  • Work-Study eligible and meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with general clinical trial subject scheduling (prescreen calls, follow ups).
  • Assist with printing, filing and storing documents, scanning.
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory and manage dry ice orders.
  • Handle biohazard waste disposal and campus errands for staff across departments.
  • Support scheduling lab sample pickups via UPS or FedEx and manage source documentation copies.
  • Data entry and management via EDC systems (REDCap, Zelta) and related software.

Position Summary

The Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico seeks a highly motivated team player with a commitment to general research and administrative support across various clinical studies. The individual will be part of the research team for multiple studies within the department, serving in a general capacity rather than being assigned to a single specific project. There is the potential to be involved with a variety of clinical trials and community-engaged research initiatives. Preferred Qualifications may include prior experience in community-based research or outreach programs, interest or education in the areas of mental health or clinical research, or experience working in laboratory environments. The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Laboratory Assistant position is a student employee position (approx. 10 to 20 hours per week) that will provide operational support, support clinical trial logistics, and general administrative assistance for the UNM Research Program - Psychedelic Therapies team. The clinical trial involvement will include assisting with scheduling, document administration, and laboratory supply management.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with general clinical trial subject scheduling (prescreen calls, follow ups etc.)
  • Assist with printing, filing and storing physical documents as well as scanning.
  • Laboratory supply inventory.
  • Picking up dry ice, and making dry ice orders.
  • Biohazard waste disposal, breaking down boxes, and shredding paper.
  • FCM<->ISUBI package or mail pickups, performing routine campus errands such as obtaining signatures from relevant staff at different departments/locations.
  • Subcutaneous injection administration observer role and other unblinded role activities.
  • Participant incentive gift card distribution.
  • Scheduling lab sample pickups via UPS or FedEx.
  • Making copies of source documentation such as ECGs.
  • Data entry and management via EDC including use of clinical trial software such as REDCap and Zelta.
  • Completing other project tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

The most successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge about REDCap, Zelta, or other Electronic Data Capture (EDC) survey instruments used in evaluation of research studies.
  • Experience conducting scheduling or administrative coordination with research participants.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Interest in mental health and clinical research.
  • People who are successful in this position can work independently, are self-motivated, very detail oriented, responsible, and have good critical thinking skills.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in working with diverse clinical research populations.
  • Phlebotomy certification would be helpful but is not a requirement.
