Job summary

OSU Cascades Disability Access Services in Bend, OR seeks a part-time Access Assistant to support students with disabilities in coursework and testing centers. You will assist with scribing, readers, and other accommodations under supervision.

This student‑employment role emphasizes confidentiality, reliability, and inclusive communication, with hours Monday and Wednesday mornings and additional shifts in the testing center as needed. Training provided.

Qualifications

  • Effective oral/written communication is required.
  • Legible handwriting for scribing and ability to take lecture notes.
  • Ability to follow directions and maintain a dependable work schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate non-judgment and inclusivity.

Responsibilities

  • Scribe or reader one-on-one with students in class or Testing Center.
  • Assist with lifting or manipulation of lab materials as directed.
  • Describe visual materials or surroundings to students.
  • Provide voice for a student by reading from a computer screen.
  • Attend field trips with students to support access to environments.

Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill a one part-time (a maximum of 24 hrs per week) positions at Oregon State University Cascades (OSU-Cascades). This position is located in Bend, OR. Disability Access Services (DAS) facilitates access to University programs and services for qualified students with disabilities through accommodations, education, consultation, and advocacy. DAS supports students through various transition experiences within OSU, supports students’ learning, self-empowerment and ultimately graduation.

AnAccess Assistant(AA) is a student employee hired by DAS to assist students with disabilities to perform tasks that are a required component of their course. AAs do not do the work for the student, but they may manipulate materials, write, or complete other course-related tasks as directed by the student with a disability. AAs will only help carry out course-related procedures that the student is unable to complete due to their disability. All information about the actual course and lab processes and procedures are the student’s responsibility.

Position Duties
  • Work one-on-one with students as a scribe or reader in class or Testing Center

  • Attending field trips with student to provide access to environment

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Available Fall Term: Mondays 10:00am- 12:00pm & Wednesdays 10:00am- 2:00pm with opportunities for more hours

Working Conditions/Schedule:

DAS Access Assistant workers are expected to work 2-10 hours a week and have the opportunity to earn more hours if needed in the testing center. Work hours may range from 8:00am-6:00pm Monday-Friday. We are specifically looking for a student with availability Mondays 10:00am- 12:00pm & Wednesdays 10:00am- 2:00pm with opportunities for more hours starting Fall term

Salary Range:

15.55 - 19.03 - 22.50 USD Hourly
