Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking an experienced Structures Superintendent to oversee on‑site coordination, supervision, and execution of all structural scopes of work, including foundations, concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, and bridge/heavy civil structures. You will ensure safety, schedule adherence, budget compliance, and compliance with contract documents.

The role requires 7+ years in structural/concrete construction, strong leadership, and proficiency with scheduling tools and field

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of structural/concrete construction experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Reading and interpreting structural drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with formwork, reinforcing steel, and bridge/heavy civil structures is a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes (ACI, AISC) and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily structural operations and coordinate sequencing with other trades.
  • Oversee concrete placement, material deliveries, crane/rigging plans, and equipment logistics.
  • Promote a safety‑first culture, enforce OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain short‑interval schedules and communicate delays/solutions.
  • Lead field crews, mentor apprentices, and ensure quality and compliance.

Job description

Overview

The Structures Superintendent will oversee on‑site coordination, supervision, and execution of all structural scopes of work—foundations, concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, structural steel, precast, and bridge/heavy civil structures—while ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and compliance with contract documents and applicable codes.

Responsibilities
  • Field Supervision & Execution – Direct daily structural operations, coordinate sequencing and installation of structural systems with other trades, interpret and enforce compliance with drawings and specifications, oversee concrete placement operations, and manage material deliveries, crane/rigging plans, and equipment logistics.
  • Safety & Quality Champion – Promote a safety‑first culture, enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies, conduct daily huddles, toolbox talks, and JHAs, perform quality control inspections, and manage punch‑list resolution.
  • Scheduling & Planning – Develop and maintain short‑interval schedules, identify constraints and potential delays, track production rates, and communicate solutions to the project team.
  • Coordination & Communication – Collaborate with the Project Manager, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve field conflicts, participate in coordination and BIM meetings, and document daily field activities in reports.
  • Team Leadership – Supervise, mentor, and develop field crews, foremen, and apprentices, manage crew assignments and performance, and foster a collaborative and respectful work environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade certification or associate/bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering preferred.
  • 7+ years of structural/concrete construction experience, including ≥3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Proven experience across structural disciplines such as cast‑in‑place concrete, formwork systems, reinforcing steel, structural steel erection, and bridge/heavy civil structures.
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, concrete/steel construction methods, formwork engineering, and applicable codes (e.g., ACI, AISC).
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and field/project management software (Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices; OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification required.
Working Conditions

Location: Hyrum, UT (subsequent projects will be nationwide).
Travel: Regular travel to project locations and regional offices.
Office environment: Extensive sitting at desk and computer with occasional standing, bending, or reaching; ability to lift 5–20 pounds occasionally.
Construction site environment: Physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach, and climb; exposure to high noise levels.

Additional Requirements

The position requires ensuring compliance with CMMC, FAR, and Accounting Standards in all Federal efforts.
