Job summary

Ames Construction in Farmington, NM seeks a Structures Superintendent to lead on-site coordination of foundations, concrete, formwork, rebar, structural steel, precast, and bridge structures, ensuring safety, schedule, and budget compliance.

You will direct self-perform crews and subcontractors, align with project management, review drawings and specs, and enforce quality and OSHA standards across federal projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade certification or degree preferred.
• 7+ years structural/concrete construction with 3+ years in supervision.
• Experience across cast-in-place concrete, formwork, rebar, structural steel, bridges.
• Ability to read structural drawings and shop drawings; familiarity with codes.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification; strong leadership and communication.

Role Summary

The Structures Superintendent is responsible for the on‑site coordination, supervision, and execution of all structural scopes of work—including foundations, concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, structural steel, precast, and bridge/heavy civil structures. This role ensures that all structural work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, engineering specifications, and applicable codes. The Structures Superintendent serves as a key field leader, directing self‑perform crews and subcontractors while partnering closely with project management to drive successful project delivery. This position is classified as “safety‑sensitive.”

Key Responsibilities

• Field Supervision & Execution – Direct and oversee daily structural field operations, coordinate the sequencing and installation of structural systems with other trades, enforce compliance with drawings, oversee concrete placement, and manage material deliveries and equipment logistics.
• Safety & Quality Champion – Promote a safety‑first culture, enforce OSHA regulations, conduct daily huddles, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, perform quality control inspections, and manage punch‑list resolution.
• Scheduling & Planning – Develop and maintain short‑interval schedules, identify constraints, track production rates and labor productivity.
• Coordination & Communication – Collaborate with the Project Manager, Superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, participate in coordination and BIM/clash‑detection meetings, and document daily field activities through reports.
• Team Leadership – Supervise, mentor, and develop field crews, manage crew assignments and workforce planning, foster a collaborative and respectful work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade certification or associate/bachelor’s degree in construction management or civil engineering preferred.
• Seven or more years of structural/concrete construction experience, with at least three years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
• Proven experience across structural disciplines (cast‑in‑place concrete, formwork systems, rebar, structural steel erection, and/or bridge/heavy civil structures).
• Strong knowledge of structural systems, concrete/steel construction methods, formwork engineering, and applicable structural codes (e.g., ACI, AISC).
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications and shop drawings.
• Proficiency with scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and field/project management software (Procore, Bluebeam).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Solid understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices; OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification.
• Experience ensuring compliance with CMMC, FAR, and Accounting Standards in all Federal efforts.

Working Conditions

• Location: Farmington, New Mexico. Subsequent projects will be nationally based.
• Travel: Expected to travel to project locations and regional offices.
• Office environment: Extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending, stooping and reaching; requires ability to lift 5‑20 pounds occasionally.
• Construction site environment: Physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach, climb; exposed to high noise levels.
