Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks an experienced Structures Design Lead for bridge and structures design. You will mentor junior engineers, lead design teams, and ensure on‑time, on‑budget project packages with strong use of AASHTO criteria.

You will coordinate with divisions, review consultant work, and help advance UDOT's Digital Delivery initiatives while guiding design process improvements and project delivery efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong background in bridge and structures design with knowledge of AASHTO design codes and criteria.
• Mentor junior engineers to develop technical competence.
• Lead design teams and manage contract documents for advertisement.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise for structures design and development of plans and specs.
• Provide design recommendations during design and construction.
• Perform design and checking of bridges and structures or guide others.
• Lead the design process, coordinate interdisciplinary work, and track project schedules and budgets.
• Review consultant designs and oversee design activities during construction.
• Support continuous improvement of Structures Design Manuals and workflows.
