Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking an Assistant Supervisor Structures in the Engineering department for the Long Island Rail Road. The role supports the Supervisor in planning, leading, and coordinating daily assignments to ensure safe, economical use of labor, materials, and equipment.

The incumbent will enforce company policies, oversee safety and regulatory compliance, and provide technical support to Structures Forces.

Qualifications

• Must possess one of the following three: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and two years engineering/railroad related experience; or Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline and successful standing in the Jr. Engineer Program; or approximately 5 years Structures experience with leadership and knowledge of codes and standards.
• Must demonstrate willingness to assume and handle responsibility.
• Must possess proficient computer skills.
• Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skill, and interpersonal skills.
• Must have valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, monitoring, and coordination of construction, maintenance and plumbing activities ensuring safe, cost-effective, high-quality performance.
• Assume Structures Supervisor responsibilities as needed for short-term coverage.
• Enforce Labor Agreements and communicate them to employees.
• Provide technical support to Structures Forces.
• Collaborate with other LIRR Departments on joint ventures.
• Ensure employees are at assigned locations during shifts and work is performed safely.
• Lead Safety Meetings and conduct regular safety audits.
• Investigate on-the-job accidents for causes and prevention.
