San Juan College seeks a Literacy Coordinator to lead the Teacher Education Department in aligning programs with the science of reading and HB156 requirements. This exempt, fixed-term position focuses on structured literacy across ALP, Teacher Residency, and licensure pathways, reporting to the Senior Director of Teacher Education.

The role involves developing professional development for instructors, coordinating with NMPED and LEAs, and ensuring compliance with state rules.

Qualifications

Master's or doctoral degree in education, literacy, reading, or a closely related field.
Minimum five years of classroom teaching, reading specialist, or literacy coach experience.
Expertise in structured literacy, science of reading, and evidence‑based instruction.

Responsibilities

Lead HB156 implementation within the Teacher Education Department.
Align coursework and clinical experiences with structured literacy competencies.
Oversee 100-hour structured literacy observation placements with LETRS-trained mentors.
Provide PD and coaching on literacy pedagogy and reading frameworks.
Coordinate with NMPED, ECECD, and LEAs on literacy placements and initiatives.
Monitor candidate performance and prepare compliance reports.
Drive continuous improvement and annual program reviews for HB156.
