Equiliem seeks a Structured Cabling Technician II to support large-scale commercial, government, and data center projects. Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and decommission network cabling in data centers and commercial sites.
• Install and support CAT5e, CAT6, copper, fiber, and other low-voltage cabling.
• Pipe, route, label, and manage low-voltage cables in IT spaces and racks.
• Perform field terminations with patch panels, jacks, keystones, and RJ-45s.
• Dress and prepare fiber trunks for splicing; perform fusion splicing.
• Test copper and fiber cabling with DSX-5000/OTDR; document results.
• Program testers and upload results to LinkWare Live; maintain records.
• Read blueprints and port maps; update field documentation as needed.
• Support UPS, PDUs, ATS/STS, CRAC/CRAH, and basic power systems as required.
• Ensure safety, quality, and workmanship; communicate with stakeholders.

Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician II supports large-scale commercial, government, and data center infrastructure projects through the installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of structured cabling and network infrastructure. This role performs copper and fiber cabling work, builds and maintains MDF/IDF environments, installs cable pathways, supports network equipment, and performs testing using industry-standard equipment while maintaining accurate documentation. The technician works collaboratively with project stakeholders, follows blueprints and design documents, and delivers consistent, repeatable solutions in accordance with safety, quality, and industry standards. This is a 12-week contract-to-hire position requiring strong technical skills, quality workmanship, professionalism, and the ability to work safely in physically demanding data center environments.

Job Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and decommission network and structured cabling infrastructure in data center and commercial environments.
• Install and support CAT5e, CAT6, copper, fiber, and other low-voltage cabling systems.
• Pull, dress, route, label, and manage low-voltage cables within IT closets, data centers, modular furniture, and work-area outlets.
• Perform field terminations using patch panels, jacks, keystones, RJ-45 connectors, modular plugs, and other applicable components.
• Dress and furcate fiber trunks in preparation for splicing.
• Perform fusion splicing, including ribbon and single-fiber OSP/ISP applications.
• Perform copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting using DSX-5000 and OTDR test equipment.
• Program cable testers and download test results to LinkWare or LinkWare Live.
• Review, verify, save, document, and submit testing results as required.
• Create and apply mass labels according to established port maps and labeling standards.
• Identify and differentiate live cabling from cabling designated for decommissioning.
• Install, connect, service, swap, and decommission network equipment, including live networking devices when required.
• Install wireless access points (WAPs).
• Lay out, build, and support MDF and IDF closets, including data racks, ladder racks, cable trays, sleeves, and related infrastructure.
• Install ladder racking and seismic bracing above and below raised-floor environments.
• Install cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.
• Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, design documents, building documentation, wiring schemes, and port maps.
• Complete redline documentation to accurately reflect field installations and changes.
• Use applicable infrastructure databases and scanning equipment to support data center operations and documentation.
• Support infrastructure associated with UPS systems, PDUs, ATS/STS equipment, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, and basic three-phase power systems as required.
• Monitor building management systems (BMS), identify alarms, and assist with basic troubleshooting under supervision.
• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance activities, meter readings, equipment checks, and basic corrective maintenance support.
• Maintain organized project documentation, service paperwork, testing records, and related reports.
• Provide clear and structured updates regarding project progress, issues, and completion status to appropriate stakeholders.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders and technical teams to identify and resolve project obstacles.
• Deliver consistent and repeatable solutions while identifying opportunities to improve processes and workmanship.
• Maintain data center and jobsite cleanliness and organization.
• Follow production, safety, and quality standards, applicable codes, established procedures, and industry best practices.
• Communicate professionally and provide appropriate customer service throughout assigned projects.
• Follow daily direction from designated technical leads and operations management.

Job Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, data cabling, or related data center infrastructure experience.
• Hands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning structured cabling systems.
• Experience working within data center environments.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• BICSI Level 1 certification or higher preferred.
• Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
• Scissor lift certification preferred.
• Working knowledge of copper and fiber cabling installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to perform fiber preparation and fusion splicing, including ribbon and single-fiber OSP/ISP applications.
• Experience operating DSX-5000 and OTDR testing equipment.
• Ability to program cable testers and manage testing results through LinkWare or LinkWare Live.
• Knowledge of wiring schemes, cable testing procedures, field terminations, labeling standards, and port maps.
• Ability to pull, route, dress, terminate, and label various types of low-voltage cable.
• Ability to lay out MDF and IDF closets and install associated racks, pathways, ladder racking, and seismic bracing.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, floor plans, design documents, and other construction documentation.
• Familiarity with data center infrastructure technologies and network equipment.
• Familiarity with UPS systems, PDUs, ATS/STS equipment, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, and basic three-phase power concepts preferred.
• Ability to maintain accurate and organized service records, testing documentation, and project paperwork.
• Ability to use basic telecommunications hand tools, including screwdrivers, levels, tape measures, snips, pliers, cable strippers, punch-down tools, modular plug crimpers, and flashlights.
• Strong verbal, written, visual, and listening communication skills.
• Understanding of customer service, jobsite safety requirements, quality standards, and industry best practices.
• Ability to work effectively with technicians, project leads, operations management, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Ability to safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pull cable, climb ladders, and work from raised platforms.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and raised-floor environments.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools, testing equipment, scanners, computers, keyboards, mice, and other technical equipment.
• Ability to use required personal protective equipment and appropriate work boots.
