Job summary

Equiliem is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician II to support large-scale commercial and government projects. You will install CAT5e/CAT6 cabling, route cables, terminate at panels, and build MDF/IDF spaces according to drawings and safety rules.

This hands-on role requires travel, overtime, and occasional night shifts. You will read blueprints, use hand tools, and work from ladders or scissor lifts, maintaining an organized jobsite and following OSHA practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, telecommunications, or data cable installation experience.
  • Commercial construction or data center cabling experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • BICSI Level 1 certification or higher preferred.
  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Scissor lift certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install CAT5e and CAT6 structured cabling infrastructure in commercial, government, and similar construction environments.
  • Dress and route cable into IT closets, modular furniture, and work area outlets.
  • Install cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.
  • Perform cable management, including dressing, routing, and labeling.
  • Terminate cabling at patch panels, jacks, keystones, RJ-45 connectors, and modular plugs.
  • Install wireless access points (WAPs).
  • Build and support MDF and IDF telecommunications spaces, including data racks, ladder racks, cable trays, and sleeves.
  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings, and installation plans.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions while communicating professionally with colleagues and management.
  • Follow all applicable jobsite safety procedures, including proper PPE use, jobsite cleanup, and OSHA safety practices.
  • Perform work from ladders and scissor lifts and within confined spaces as required.
  • Maintain an organized work area and properly use required hand tools and installation equipment.

Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician II supports large-scale commercial and government infrastructure projects through the installation, termination, testing, routing, and management of structured cabling systems. This is a hands-on construction and low-voltage field position, not an IT support role, requiring experience with CAT5e/CAT6 cabling, cable pathways, telecommunications spaces, and related infrastructure. The technician must follow project drawings, technical standards, safety procedures, and installation requirements while maintaining a professional and organized jobsite. The position requires schedule flexibility, including mandatory overtime as needed, potential night-shift work, and openness to travel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and remain physically active for the duration of the work shift.
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime as required by project needs.
  • Ability to accommodate potential night-shift work as project schedules change.
  • Openness to travel based on project requirements.
  • Must have basic hand tools and appropriate work gear, including a multi-bit screwdriver, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, cable stripper, punch-down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.

  • Current schedule is approximately 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Schedule changes are anticipated based on project needs, including potential night shifts.
  • Overtime is mandatory when required by project demands.
  • Candidates should be open to travel based on project requirements.
  • This is a construction and low-voltage field position and should not be considered an IT support or help desk role.
