Job summary

Picou Group Contractors in Southeast Louisiana is seeking a skilled Structural Welder to join our team. You will perform welds on beams, columns and braces, read blueprints and welding symbols, and ensure workmanship meets project specs and codes.

Candidates should have 2–5 years of structural welding experience, a valid TWIC card, ability to pass drug tests, and Basic Plus certification or obtain it within the first week. Safety training and teamwork are essential.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Welder to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience welding structural steel in an industrial construction environment and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. This role involves performing high-quality welds on structural components in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural welding on beams, columns, braces, and other steel components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and welding symbols.
• Weld using SMAW (Stick), FCAW (Flux Core), and/or MIG processes as required by the project.
• Ensure all welds meet project specifications and applicable codes.
• Inspect completed welds to verify quality and structural integrity.
• Maintain welding equipment and tools in proper working condition.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
• Collaborate with fitters, supervisors, and other team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
• Complete site safety training and adhere to company safety policies.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in structural welding in an industrial or commercial construction setting.
• Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
• Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests.
• Basic Plus certification required; candidates without certification must obtain it within the first week of employment.
• Completion of site-specific safety training within the first week of employment.
• Ability to pass a structural welding test (as required).
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment and adapt to varying project demands.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in industrial plants, refineries, or heavy commercial projects.
• Knowledge of AWS welding codes and standards.
• Ability to weld in multiple positions (3G, 4G, etc.).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
