Job summary

Qualdoc in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector to support quality control in a structural steel fabrication shop.

You will inspect fabricated steel, perform in-process and final inspections, verify dimensions against shop drawings, and ensure compliance with AWS D1.1/D1.5 standards.

This contract-to-hire position on 1st shift offers starting pay of $31.00/hour, with overtime on Saturdays and experience-based progression.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of structural steel layout and fabrication experience.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and quality requirements.
• Welding certification in AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify dimensional and fabrication issues.

Responsibilities

• Inspect fabricated structural steel throughout the production process
• Perform in-process and final quality inspections
• Verify dimensions, layout, and component placement
• Compare materials and completed work against shop drawings and specifications
• Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.5
• Work with fabrication and production teams to correct quality issues
• Support quality improvement efforts and process improvements
• Participate in annual AWS quality-control audits

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector to support quality control in a structural steel fabrication facility. Experienced senior-level structural steel fitters or fabricators with strong inspection and layout knowledge may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspect fabricated structural steel throughout the production process
• Perform in-process and final quality inspections

• Compare materials and completed work against shop drawings and specifications
• Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1/D1.5
• Work with fabrication and production teams to correct quality issues

• Participate in annual AISC quality-control audits
