Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector to ensure welded components meet engineering drawings and customer specifications. Qualifications

Responsibilities

Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Shift: First Shift
Starting Pay: Up to $32.00 per hour (compensation is based on experience)

Position Overview

We are looking for a Structural Steel Fabrication Inspector to help ensure fabricated products meet quality expectations throughout the manufacturing process. This hands‑on position involves inspecting structural steel components, welds, coatings, and raw materials while verifying compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate has a background in structural steel fabrication, understands welding codes, and is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

• Inspect structural steel components throughout fabrication to verify quality and workmanship.
• Confirm compliance with project specifications and applicable standards, including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC requirements.
• Examine incoming materials, parts, and consumables to ensure they meet required specifications.
• Record inspection findings and maintain accurate quality reports and documentation.
• Identify, label, and track inspected materials in accordance with established quality procedures.
• Calibrate and maintain welding equipment along with inspection and measuring tools.
• Support welder qualification and certification activities.
• Assist with training related to welding practices, fitting procedures, inspection methods, and quality requirements.
• Maintain drawing control and support documentation used throughout the quality process.
• Work closely with production personnel and leadership to investigate quality concerns and improve manufacturing processes.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts while promoting a safe work environment.
• Minimum of two years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Previous experience in quality control, quality assurance, inspection, or a similar manufacturing role.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
• Experience using quality inspection equipment, including:
  • Fillet weld gauges
  • V‑WAC gauges
  • Squares
  • Tape measures
  • Standard welding and fabrication inspection tools
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accuracy, and workplace safety.
• Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Experience performing or assisting with Nondestructive Testing (NDT), including:
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, bolting, or protective coatings.
• Experience in a structural steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Primarily a shop‑floor role with limited office responsibilities.
• Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures.
• Frequent standing, walking, and performing inspections throughout the workday.
