Job summary

Vican Manufacturing Solutions is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to inspect structural and miscellaneous steel throughout the fabrication process. This full-time shop-based role requires reading shop drawings and understanding basic welding and dimensional inspection requirements.

Responsibilities include inspecting workmanship, verifying materials and connections, and maintaining traceability. Overtime may be required, and there is collaboration with fitters, welders, and project management

Qualifications

  • Reading fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
  • Understand basic welding and dimensional inspection requirements.
  • Experience in fabrication, welding, fitting, or quality-control is preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect fabricated steel for dimensional accuracy, fit-up, weld quality, and workmanship.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications, and weld symbols.
  • Verify materials, member sizes, hole locations, plates, clips, and connection details.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections before coating or shipment.
  • Use tape measures, squares, levels, weld gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Document inspections, deficiencies, repairs, and final acceptance.
  • Confirm repairs are completed and reinspected.
  • Maintain material identification and traceability throughout fabrication.
  • Coordinate with fitters, welders, supervisors, and project management.
  • Assist with customer and third-party inspections when required.
  • Follow quality-control procedures and project-specific requirements.
  • Help identify recurring quality issues and prevent rework.

Job description

Vican Manufacturing Solutions is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to inspect structural and miscellaneous steel throughout the fabrication process. This position does not require a Certified Welding Inspector certification. The ideal candidate has fabrication experience, can read shop drawings, and understands basic welding and dimensional inspection requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect fabricated steel for dimensional accuracy, fit-up, weld quality, and overall workmanship
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications, and weld symbols
  • Verify materials, member sizes, hole locations, plates, clips, and connection details
  • Perform in-process and final inspections before material is released for coating or shipment
  • Use tape measures, squares, levels, weld gauges, and other inspection tools
  • Document inspections, deficiencies, repairs, and final acceptance
  • Confirm required repairs are completed and reinspected
  • Maintain material identification and traceability throughout fabrication
  • Coordinate with fitters, welders, supervisors, and project management

Qualifications:

  • Structural steel fabrication, welding, fitting, or quality-control experience preferred
  • Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and weld symbols
  • Familiarity with common welding processes and visual weld inspection
  • Ability to accurately perform dimensional inspections
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation
  • Comfortable communicating quality issues directly and professionally
  • Basic computer and recordkeeping skills
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is not required
  • Experience working under AISC or AWS quality standards is a plus

Position Details:

  • Full-time position
  • Shop-based role with regular walking, climbing, bending, and inspection of fabricated assemblies
  • Overtime may be required based on production needs
  • Compensation is based on experience and demonstrated ability
