Structural Steel QC Inspector (Pittsburgh, PA)

General Purpose: Ensure work complies with McCarl’s Quality Management System, industry codes, and client requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with McCarl’s Quality Control Manual at fabrication and field sites.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures.
• Review client QA/QC requirements and adapt procedures as needed.
• Create Inspection and Test Plans based on contractual requirements.
• Participate in client inspections and audits.
• Maintain quality control records for materials, bolting, and welding.
• Oversee subcontractor quality work.
• Assist in developing prequalified welding procedures and administer welder certification tests.
• Inspect welded joints for defects, dimensions, penetration, and specifications.
• Observe welder techniques and performance.
• Witness erection activities and coordinate third-party NDT inspections.
• Maintain positive relationships with departments, clients, vendors, and third parties.
• Prepare documentation for client submission.
• Communicate effectively and embody "The McCarl Way".
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current AWS CWI certification.
• Journeyman Ironworker certification or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years’ experience in welding and inspection.
• Knowledge of industry standards like AISC and AWS D1.1.
• Ability to plan, execute, and record quality inspections.
• Ability to read fabrication and erection drawings.
• Knowledge of structural fabrication and erection practices.
• Understanding of NDE methodologies is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and proactively.
• Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
• Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Effective interpersonal skills across all levels.

Travel: Over-the-road travel with overnight stays to project locations.

Physical Requirements: Sitting, manual dexterity, talking, occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., near vision, focus adjustment.

Work Environment: Office settings and construction sites with moderate noise. Use of PPE required. Ability to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts.
