Job summary

Qualdoc in Cocoa, FL is seeking experienced Structural Steel Fitter Welders for a production fabrication shop on a contract-to-hire basis. This hands-on role requires reading drawings, fitting, welding, and ensuring assemblies meet dimensions and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural steel welding, fitting, or fabrication.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Hands-on experience measuring, fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel.
• Familiarity with welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools.
• Strong attention to detail and safe work practices.
• Reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Review fabrication drawings, blueprints, and specifications before starting each assignment.
• Measure, mark, cut, fit, and position structural steel components.
• Assemble steel parts and verify proper fit-up and alignment.
• Perform structural welding according to project requirements and applicable standards.
• Set up and operate fabrication equipment, machinery, and hand tools.
• Use oxyacetylene torches, plasma cutters, drill presses, angle presses, jigs, tape measures, and squares.
• Set up and operate a track torch when required.
• Check dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and completed weldments for accuracy.
• Make adjustments as needed to maintain proper fit and quality.
• Work with supervisors and other fabrication personnel to meet production schedules.
• Keep tools and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Follow all required shop safety procedures and workplace practices.

Position Overview

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience in structural steel welding, fitting, or fabrication

• Familiarity with welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate measurements
• Reliable attendance and commitment to safe work practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a production-oriented fabrication environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Flux Core welding experience
• Ability to successfully complete a Flux Core weld test
• Experience setting up and operating a track torch
• AWS or other welding certifications
