Job summary

Qualdoc in Arlington, TN is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter/Fabricator to build and assemble structural steel components in a busy fabrication shop. This role demands strong blueprint-reading, accurate layout, and precise fit-up to prepare parts for welding.

You will read structural blueprints and weld symbols, fit beams, columns, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals, and operate shop equipment such as ironworkers, mag drills, band saws, grinders, torches, and plasma

Qualifications

• 2+ years of structural steel fitting/fabrication experience.
• Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Experience with structural layout, fit-up, and fabrication processes.

Responsibilities

• Read structural steel blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and layout details.
• Fit and assemble beams, columns, stairs, railings, and misc metals.
• Measure, layout, cut, fit, and assemble components.
• Operate ironworkers, mag drills, band saws, grinders, torches, plasma cutters.
• Tack and prepare assemblies for welding and final production.
• Use overhead cranes, rigging, and material-handling equipment safely.
• Verify dimensions, alignment, and fit-up before welding.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to meet production schedules.

Pay: Starting at $21.00/hour, with higher pay available based on experience
2nd Shift Differential: Additional 10%
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Available | Some Saturdays Required

Job Overview

This position requires strong blueprint-reading skills, accurate layout and fit-up abilities, and experience working safely with heavy steel and fabrication equipment.

• Read structural steel blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and layout details.
• Fit and assemble beams, columns, stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals.
• Perform measuring, layout, cutting, fitting, and assembly.
• Operate ironworkers, mag drills, band saws, grinders, oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and other shop equipment.
• Tack and prepare steel assemblies for welding and final production.
• Use overhead cranes, rigging, and material-handling equipment safely.
• Verify dimensions, alignment, squareness, and fit-up before welding.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while meeting production schedules.

• Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) experience in structural steel fabrication.
• Ability to produce clean, strong FCAW welds on structural steel.
• Experience welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
