Job summary

Novax Recruitment Group is partnering with a growing AISC-certified structural steel fabricator in New York. The role focuses on welding inspection and quality control across structural steel and bridge fabrication projects.

The successful candidate will perform VT/UT/MT testing, review weld procedures and drawings, and ensure AWS standards are consistently applied throughout fabrication. AISC quality management collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
• UT, MT and/or PT certification or hands-on experience.
• Welding background and ability to read fabrication drawings.
• Strong understanding of AWS D1.1; D1.5 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect welded assemblies to AWS standards.
• Perform quality inspections throughout fabrication.
• Oversee Visual Testing (VT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
• Review weld procedures, drawings, weld maps and specs.
• Maintain inspection reports and quality documentation.
• Identify non-conformances and support corrective actions.
• Collaborate with production to improve quality and reduce rework.
• Support AISC quality management requirements.
• Coordinate with project management and shop leadership to ensure high fabrication standards.

What You'll Be Doing

• Inspect welded assemblies to AWS standards
• Perform quality inspections throughout the fabrication process
• Carry out or oversee:
• Visual Testing (VT)
• Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
• Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
• Review weld procedures, drawings, weld maps and specifications
• Maintain inspection reports and quality documentation
• Identify non-conformances and assist with corrective actions
• Work closely with production teams to improve quality and reduce rework
• Support AISC quality management requirements
• Collaborate with project management, shop leadership and operations to ensure high fabrication standards

What We're Looking For

• MUST HAVE... AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• UT, MT and/or PT certification or hands‑on experience
• Welding background
• Ability to read fabrication drawings
• Strong understanding of AWS D1.1 (AWS D1.5 is an advantage)
