Job summary

The City of Coral Gables seeks a skilled Mechanical Plans Examiner to enforce Florida Building Code provisions and review mechanical plans for permit compliance. You will advise applicants, approve plans, and may assist with field inspections, supporting the Building Official as needed.

Candidates must hold a Florida State Certified Mechanical Contractor license or Florida PE (mechanical), or Broward/Miami‑Dade licensed pathway with substantial field experience, and possess a valid Florida

Qualifications

Certified as a Mechanical Plans Examiner by the State of Florida and the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals.
Qualified under one of the following license scenarios: Master General Mechanical Contractor (Miami‑Dade), State Certified Mechanical Contractor (Florida), Florida PE (Mechanical), or Broward/Miami‑Dade path with corresponding five or ten years of field experience.

Responsibilities

Interpret and enforce all mechanical provisions of the Florida Building Code.
Review plans and permit applications for mechanical code compliance; advise on changes and approve plans.
May assist with mechanical field inspections.
Assist Building Official or Deputy as needed.
Provide technical assistance to field inspectors.
