Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering is seeking a Structural/Mechanical Engineer II to perform design and analysis for liquid storage structures, vessels, and foundations. You will work within a team to support LNG terminals and cryogenic storage projects across field and fabrication offices.

Required BS in Civil/Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of experience; EIT preferred; strong knowledge of structural analysis and FEA tools (ANSYS, STAAD) is desired.

• BS in Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering; MS/PhD preferred.
• EIT preferred; 2+ years related engineering experience required.
• Advanced knowledge of strength of materials and structural analysis.

Job Summary
The Structural/Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for performing design and analysis work for liquid storage structures, specialty vessels, and foundations using sound engineering principles. Typical applications include LNG storage terminals, low temp storage such as Propane/Butane, Ammonia tanks and liquid hydrogen spheres, above ground storage tanks, spheres, vacuum chambers and clarifiers etc. This role works on individual tasks in a collaborative team of engineers and designers to directly support various field and fabrication offices.
Essential Functions

• Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its "Core Values".

• Perform engineering design and calculations work for structures in liquid storage terminals for steel and concrete structures and their appurtenances.
• Perform engineering design calculations for shallow and deep foundations including pile design, soil-structure interaction, and site-specific seismic analysis as required.
• Perform analysis work including linear/nonlinear structural loading, vibration, seismic response spectrum analysis, thermal loading, and other analysis as required for LNG storage tanks and other cryogenic/refrigerated structures.
• Prepares portions of project documents, edits specifications, develops design sketches, etc.
• Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
• Work on special projects assigned and directed by supervisor or other Engineers.
• Performs other related duties, as directed
  

Qualifications

• BS in Civil (Structural)/Mechanical Engineering required; MS degree preferred; PhD highly preferred.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) preferred
• 2+ years related engineering experience is required or equivalent educational experience.
• Advanced knowledge of strength of materials, mechanics, and structural analysis. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is preferred.
• Experience in design of steel and concrete structures is preferred
• Working knowledge of MathCAD, AutoCAD, STAAD, and ANSYS is preferred.
• Knowledge of numerical methods of structural analysis preferred.
• Design experience in API-620, API-650, API-653, ASCE, ACI, NFPA and ASME Section VIII is strongly preferred.
• Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
• Maintains a sense of urgency and a positive attitude.
• Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
• Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Occasional overtime and travel may be required
