Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; prior field experience preferred.
• Strong ability to understand and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate with supervision.
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Reads specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.
• Fabricates metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, per blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Unloads and positions prefabricated steel units for hoisting; signals hoisting operators to lift and position steel members.
• Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels.
• Cuts, bends, or welds steel pieces with shears, torches, or welding equipment.
• Forces structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, or jacks.
• Moves structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting.
• Bolts structural-steel members for permanence via riveting, bolting, or welding.
• Assembles hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy equipment or materials.
• Estimates sizes, distances, and quantities; determines time, costs, resources, or materials needed for a task.
• Inspects subordinate's work for contract compliance and advises on corrective action.
