Job summary

Englobal a Gulf Island Company in Houston seeks an experienced Structural Fitter to lay out, align and fit fabricated steel components per blueprint specifications, ensuring proper tolerance and fit.

The role requires 2+ years in structural fitting within fabrication, ability to pass a structural fitter test with I-beam and torch, and compliance with safety and quality standards in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in structural fitting within a fabrication environment.
• Must be able to pass a structural fitter test (45 degree cut out I Beam with torch)
• Knowledge of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen
• Must be able to pass a background check

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors
• Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area
• Work in a safe and conscientious manner
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash/ scrap removal and other production related jobs
• Assist in yearly audited inventory process
• Perform basic crane operation
• Properly fit mill to bear stiffeners
• Operate cutting and heating torches and perform accurate simple heat corrections
• Check camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams with minimal assistance and be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications
• Grind parts, torque bolts and operate mechanical and manual cutting equipment
• Produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
• Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
