Job summary

DES Architects + Engineers seeks a Structural Engineering Team Lead to guide the growth of our Structural Engineering practice. You will provide technical leadership, oversee projects, QA/QC, and mentor the team while developing client relationships and our project pipeline.

You will lead proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates, collaborating with PMs to meet schedules and budgets. The role requires 10+ years’ SE experience and a California SE license.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid California Structural Engineer license, with at least 10 years of increasing responsibility in structural engineering.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree with concentration in Structural Engineering.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with architects, engineers, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, building codes, design standards, and applicable industry practices.
• Ability to represent the firm professionally in client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and technical direction to Structural Engineers, EITs and Structural Technical Designers.
• Coordinate workload assignments within the structural team to meet project schedules and staffing needs.
• Mentor and develop team members through coaching, technical training, project oversight, and career development discussions.
• Meet structural engineering design schedules and budgets.
• Lead the creation of precise construction documents from design through to completeness.
• Collaborate with Project Managers on timelines, budget and additional services.
• Assist with proposals, statements of qualifications, scopes of work, and fee estimates for Structural Engineering opportunities.
• Develop fee proposals and represent the firm in client marketing interviews and presentations.
• Identify new business opportunities, expand client relationships, and build the project pipeline.
