Job summary

DES is seeking a Structural Engineering Team Lead to guide the growth of its Structural Engineering practice. The role blends technical leadership, project oversight, QA/QC, team development, and business development across multidisciplinary projects.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate workloads, and drive construction documents while expanding the client base and project pipeline in the Bay Area. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring California licensure and onsite work Tue-Thu in

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid California Structural Engineer license with 10+ years of increasing responsibility.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and building codes.
• Experience with seismic engineering design.
• Work onsite in Redwood City or San Francisco (Tue-Thu).
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership and technical direction to Structural Engineers, EITs and Structural Technicians.
• Coordinate workload assignments within the structural team to meet project schedules.
• Mentor and develop team members through coaching and career development discussions.
• Ensure structural design schedules and budgets are met.
• Lead creation of construction documents with accuracy through completion.
• Support proposals, SOQs, project approaches, and fee estimates for Structural Engineering opportunities.
• Develop client relationships and expand the project pipeline.
• Represent the firm in client marketing interviews and presentations.
