Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in the United States to support the Power market with standard engineering tasks, data collection, and documentation. The role includes assisting with design updates, preparing presentations, and collaborating with lead engineers on project duties.

You will gain exposure to multiple project teams, learn through hands-on tasks, and participate in continuous improvement activities. A 3.0 GPA and active campus/community involvement are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program required.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active involvement in campus or community activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Present solutions to project concerns and research possible solutions.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Power

The Power group is responsible for the planning, design, and startup of power generation and decarbonization technologies. This includes gas turbines, utility-scale battery storage, hydrogen electrolysis, carbon capture technologies, solar, and nuclear plant services.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
